Therapeutic effect of electroacupuncture in a p75 knockout mouse model of progressive hearing loss.

چکیده
Neurotrophin receptor p75 (p75) knockout mice (p75 (−/−) mice) provide a good animal model of progressive-onset hearing loss. Cell loss of the spiral ganglion neurons (SGNs) and hair cell degeneration at the basal turn of the cochlea are seen in p75(−/−) mice from 3 months of age. Furthermore, from 3 to 6 months of age, the hearing thresholds of p75(−/−) mice are gradually raised; and after 6 months of age, the mice mostly exhibit hearing loss. Several previous reports have indicated that electroacupuncture (EA) stimulation may improve subjective symptoms of tinnitus or hearing loss. 3 However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the therapeutic effect of EA stimulation for hearing loss remain unclear. Thus, to determine whether EA stimulation is useful for the prevention of hearing loss, we used a p75 (−/−) mouse model of progressive-onset hearing loss. Therapeutic effect of Intra-Tympanic Dexamethasone–Hyaluronic Acid Combination in Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss
Introduction: Hearing loss is fairly a common disorder which is usually treated with corticosteroids via systemic administration and/or intra-tympanic injection. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of intra-tympanic injections of dexamethasone with its combination with hyaluronic acid in patients with sudden sensorineural hearing loss. Materials and Methods: In this clinical trial, ...
متن کاملElectroacupuncture attenuates chronic fibromyalgia pain through the phosphorylated phosphoinositide 3-kinase signaling pathway in the mouse brain
Objective(s): Fibromyalgia (FM) is a central nervous system disorder characterized by widespread mechanical hyperalgesia due to unknown mechanisms. Several inflammatory mediators, such as interleukin-1 (IL-1), IL-6, IL-8, and tumor necrosis factor, are increased in the serum of FM patients. Although medications including pregabalin, duloxetine, and milnacipran are used...
متن کاملProgressive visual and hearing loss as looming manifestations of spinal meningeal melanocytoma
Abstract Meningeal melanocytoma is a rare tumor of nervous system, which originates from leptomeningeal melanocytes. The locations of melanocytoma in the nervous system are most frequently in the posterior fossa or along the spinal cord, and usually appear as an extra-axial mass. The manifestations of tumor are most often due to its compressing effect on adjacent nervous structures that c...
متن کاملAnalgesic Effect of Electroacupuncture in a Mouse Fibromyalgia Model: Roles of TRPV1, TRPV4, and pERK
Fibromyalgia (FM) is among the most common chronic pain syndromes encountered in clinical practice, but there is limited understanding of FM pathogenesis. We examined the contribution of transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) and TRPV4 channels to chronic pain in the repeated acid injection mouse model of FM and the potential therapeutic efficacy of electroacupuncture. Electroacupunct...
متن کاملCinnamaldehyde attenuates dopaminergic neuronal loss in substantia nigra and induces midbrain catalase activity in a mouse model of Parkinson’s disease
Background and Objective: Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer's disease that affects 3% of the population. PD involves a progressive degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc) and subsequent loss of dopamine. Dopamine depletion leads to movement dysfunction and is accompanied with tremor, rigid muscle...
